Your Postal and Federal Pensions are at Risk

ALERT: Dangerous House Bills Threaten Postal and Federal Workers

Several bills in the U.S. House of Representatives pose serious threats to the rights, jobs, and protections of postal and federal workers. These proposals are part of a broader agenda to weaken unions, cut public services, and put political control over nonpartisan agencies.

Bills to Watch

HR 1210 – Protecting Taxpayers Wallets Act
This bill would force federal unions to pay for official time (also known as union time) and reimburse the government for using agency resources like office space and equipment. It is an attack on union operations and would severely limit our ability to defend and represent employees.

HR 2249 – Preserving Presidential Management Authority Act
This bill would allow the President to negotiate or terminate federal union collective bargaining agreements, removing them from a fair and established process. It opens the door to politically motivated interference in contracts and worker rights.

HR 2174 – The Paycheck Protection Act
This bill would ban federal and postal unions from deducting union dues directly from employee paychecks and restrict other types of voluntary payroll deductions. It is a clear effort to undermine union funding and silence worker voices.

HR 489 – Federal Agency Sunset Commission Act
This bill would require Congress to regularly vote to reauthorize every federal agency, or the agency would be automatically abolished. It subjects the entire federal government, including the USPS and agencies that serve veterans, seniors, and working families, to partisan politics and constant threats of elimination.

Why This Matters

If passed, these bills could lead to

  • Weakened or eliminated union representation
  • Politicized control over bargaining agreements
  • Disruption of federal agencies and services
  • Loss of job protections, benefits, and retirement security
  • A fractured and unstable federal workforce

What You Can Do

  • Call your members of Congress and urge them to oppose these anti-worker bills
  • Educate your coworkers and stay engaged in union communications
  • Stand united in defense of your job, your contract, and your future
  • Support your union locally and nationally as we fight back

These bills are dangerous. They are not about saving money or increasing efficiency. They are about weakening the voices of working people and dismantling public services. The time to act is now.
