Western Colorado Area Local
The Western Colorado Area Local is a proud branch of the American Postal Workers Union, serving our members across 32 offices throughout Western Colorado.
About the American Postal Workers Union
The APWU stands as the world’s largest postal union, representing more than 330,000 USPS employees and retirees, along with nearly 2,000 private-sector mail workers. For more than three decades, we have championed dignity and respect on the job, fighting for decent pay, comprehensive benefits, and safe working conditions for all our members. As an AFL-CIO affiliate, we proudly support the struggle for social and economic justice for all working families.
Our Structure and Membership
Our union operates as a democratic organization, with members belonging to one of four primary divisions based on their occupation:
- Clerk Division
- Maintenance Division
- Motor Vehicle Division
- Support Services Division
Members belong to approximately 1,600 state and local unions and retiree chapters across every state and territory. All APWU officers are directly elected by our union members, ensuring true democratic representation.
Local Autonomy and National Support
While our state and local affiliates maintain autonomous operations, they rely on the national union for:
- Contract negotiations
- National-level grievance representation
- Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiation
- Legislative advocacy on Capitol Hill
Extended Family
We maintain active Retiree and Auxiliary chapters, allowing former postal workers and postal families to remain engaged in union affairs and continue supporting our mission of workplace justice and fair representation.
